Wordbock -
The online dictionary for refrigeration industry

There are numerous tools for translation online, but especially when it comes
to technical terms, you face a ton of suggestions without knowing what to
choose. The long and tiring search for the correct term often leads to mistakes
or an inconsistent translation. Luckily, there is Wordbock to help – the first
online tool that translates all technical terms of the refrigeration and
air-conditioning industry.

With this dictionary for experts of the field refrigeration and
air-conditioning, the correct translation in the languages German, English,
French, Spanish and Russian is available with just one click.

The database that will continuously be expanded has currently more than 600
words per language and contains all important words around the compressor and
refrigeration related terms and is therefore a helpful tool for the daily work
in the industry. The preparation of a presentation or a lecture, the translation
of a research paper or the own vocabulary training is thereby not only made
easier, but also much quicker.

And if the right term is not available, the quick selection helps to find
similar words that lead to an answer.

1. Refrigerant imitations
2. Compressor and replacement parts copies

1. Attention! Dangerous R134a refrigerant imitations in circulation!

An increasing number of compressor breakdowns have occurred recently due to
refrigerant imitations. Investigations of these fakes show that the imitation
refrigerants, in this case declared as R134a, consisted mainly of R22, R30, R40
and R142b.

The Montreal Protocol has prohibited the use of R22 in new systems since 1
January 2010 and will forbid the general use of this refrigerant starting in
2015. The Halon Prohibition Ordi nance also prohibits the use and sale of
R142b.

Chlormethane (R40) was used as a refrigerant before CFC refrigerants were
developed. Accidents resulting from the reaction of R40 with aluminium are
described in the literature. This reaction is said to create highly inflammable
gases which are self-igniting and explosive on contact with air. After
sufficient time, the aluminium is completely dissolved by the refrigerant. The
oil does not hinder this severe attack. The aluminium compressors used in mobile
refrigerating plants are attacked by chlormethane. In addition, plastic
materials react with R40. Refrigerant tubes can be strongly damaged by this
refrigerant.

The POE refrigerating-machine oil is strongly emulsified by
the reaction with R40 and split into its component materials. Acids and alcohols
result.

Also in circulation is diluted R134a, which contains R22 and, at times,
propane. This creates the following problems in „hot countries“:

1.1 The
temperature/pressure characteristics curves no longer agree. The addition of R22
reduces the pressure by about 1-1.5 bar compared to pure R134a. That means, when
the system is at standstill, the correct refrigerant fill amount cannot be
specified. Likewise, the apparent suction gas superheating of 7K is not real,
but the compressor runs completely liquid.

1.2 Due to the addition of R22, the oil is no longer transported from the
system back to the compressor. Some compressors will then break down due to a
lack of lubrication.

1.3 The addition of propane increases the fire risk. Fires may result if the
refrigerant is not suctioned away properly.

Possible results from imitation refrigerant

The benchmark of mobile air-conditioning – GEA Bock at the Busworld 2011

When Busworld 2011 in Kortrijk closed its gates on 26 October, one of GEA
Bock’s most successful exhibitions of the last years ended.

The number of vehicles with Bock compressors displayed at the Busworld
demonstrated impressively the claim of GEA Bock to be market leader of modern
bus air-conditioning systems. Marcus Reuß, GEA Bock Director Sales and
responsible for mobile applications drew a positive balance at the end of the
exhibition: “We are very pleased to see that two-thirds of all buses exhibited
at the Busworld use compressors by GEA Bock. This fact is exemplary for the
success of the past years. At the same time we look into the future with
optimism. Not least because we already work together with the leading system
manufacturers on tomorrow’s air-conditioning systems.“

For example the Aluminum compressor HG34 in lightweight construction with
integrated electric drive, presented at the Busworld. A compressor for highly
efficient systems, especially developed for mobile applications, such as hybrid
or trolley.

In addition, the company presented with its compressors of the FK series
open-type compressors for a conventional drive via Diesel engine of the vehicle
at its booth in hall 4.

GEA Bock presented itself for the first time as part of the GEA Group. The
company that was family-owned until recently is part of the segment
Refrigeration Technologies of the GEA Group AG since May this year. The GEA
Group is an international system provider for food and energy processes with
more than 20.000 employees and a revenue of EUR 4.4 billion.
